Chorales and Beyond

Concert Band Methods

Title: Chorales and Beyond
Authors: Timothy Loest and Chip De Stefano, with percussion by Kevin Lepper
Publisher: FJH Music Company
Instrumentation: Concert Band

Description:
I’m tremendously proud of this full band warm-up method. Taking what we do in rehearsal every day and distilling it into book form was no easy task, but we did an amazing job if I say so myself!

I have long been a believer in using chorales and breathing exercises to develop tone and pitch in young bands.  Although there was published material available, I always felt like the chorales used in those books were just too difficult.  If we want our students focusing on their tone and pitch, everything else need to be taken out of the equation.  Daily routines cover breathing, long tones, pitch matching, intervals, scales, arpeggios, chord progressions, and chorales. All chorales are written in four-part harmony with all parts appearing in each instrument book for ultimate flexibility with instrumentation. Centered around 10 common major and minor keys, each unit includes a daily routine and three chorale cycles that can be used to provide constant variety and freshness. Personal warm-ups and musical terms are also included along with vibrant and engaging percussion writing from longtime master educator and percussionist Kevin Lepper!
